Hikvision video recorders are devices that record video and audio signals from one or more cameras onto an internal hard drive. Depending on the number of cameras connected to the recorder (DVR), there are single-channel, four-channel, eight-channel, sixteen-channel, and even thirty-two-channel devices available.

When selecting a video recorder, consider the following parameters:

• Recording speed. The most common speed is 25 frames per second (similar to a television). In some cases, a lower frame rate of 6-8 frames per second may suffice;
• Recording resolution (indicated by abbreviations such as CIF, 2CIF, D1, 960H). The higher the resolution, the better the image quality (ranging from 352×288 to 960×576 pixels);
• Network functionality – allowing access to recordings via the Internet;
• Motion detection – enabling the recorder to automatically switch to recording mode when motion is detected in a specified area. This feature helps save storage space by recording only when necessary.
