Fuse locks

Description

Fuses protect the electric car circuit from short circuit. Automotive fuses – devices that by breaking one or more elements specially designed circuit is opened, into which they are incorporated, disabling the current when it exceeds a predetermined value for a sufficient time.

When selecting fuses should consider the following key considerations:
1. Rated voltage fuse must not be less than the nominal line voltage.
2. Nominal fuse current should be not less than the rated current setting.
3. Rated breaking current must be at least a periodic component of the prospective fault current.
4. Automotive fuses installed in the motor circuit must be checked by the starter motor current (should not blow during normal start-up).
5. When the number of fuses in series, they should be checked for the selectivity (initially burned car fuses coming to the place of the short circuit).
6. Automotive fuses located in the primary circuit of a power transformer should withstand 10 times the primary rated current for 0.1s.
7. Time-current characteristic of the fuse should go below the time-current characteristics of the load.
